Unconventional

My newest obsessions consist of .99cent t-shirts from the goodwill, handmade cut off shorts and tank tops posing as mini skirts. The fixation with .99 t-shirts came from the desire to have something casual and easy to go with any outfit. I'm a fan of dope graphics and think it adds flavor to an ordinary outfit. I guess it's the way I make something totally me.

The goodwill by my apt is stocked with t-shirts that range from superman, to hello kitty, to the occasional sarcastic slogan. I've been cutting the sides and not afraid to pair it with anything! Shorts these days are way too expensive. Why buy a distressed pair that you can destroy yourself? Jump on that $5 dollar jean phenomenon at a thrift store and cut your own shorts and personalize them with plenty of bleach and tears.

S and I discovered the beauty of the "tank top miniskirt" when we had a lack of simple colored bottoms. We started wearing our tight tank tops on our hips and then layered a looser shirt over it. It's a simple solution when you want a cool print or bold color on the bottom of an outfit. Lesson of the summer : thrift stores take the cake.

Poppy's Closet

This year was tough for P and me. Last year we had fab nannying jobs, we were making money and had the wardrobes to show for it. Last semester was not the case. We were jobless, broke, and not used to either. Regardless, job or no job, life must go on.

Getting dressed to go out was a bitch. We'd sit around going through our same clothes, and frantically try to make something cute out of them. Somehow every weekend we'd make it work. We'd laugh at how we managed to take our regular clothes, and turn them into fashion forward cute outfits.

After a while P and I realized that we kinda had a knack for creating fresh looks out of our old clothes. We consider ourselves recessionistas. So, we decided to share our gift with you all. Every week, we'll post some ideas of how to freshen up your look without spending a dime, and for those of you who have a little money to spend, we'll suggest a few key items that are pivotal in every girl's wardorobe.
